I came across a press clipping a fews days ago:

“People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.”

Some rube from the backwoods? No, in fact an editorial in the US Investors Business Daily. All of this is to back up the prevailing right wing view that US healthcare reform is a bad thing and would make the US like the heartless UK who have “Death Panels” to make bad health decisions.

Apparently, US right wing commentators have given up checking any facts in the pursuit of the argument. As we know, Stephen Hawking is British and gets his health care here.

Was ill today and then had a go at this domain setting up lark.

Now feel more ill. Heaven forfend that you knew nothing about th’internet, ftp, scripting, domain names and the like and you tried to set up any of this nonsense.

Anyway, seems to be all working now.

Reet proud.

I’ve moved the blog into my own domain and set it as the home page of grahamturnbull.co.uk. I’ll try to pull all my disparate bits together over the next few days.

Yeah, I think Arfur is becoming more appealing moment by moment.  Routinely, when I’m abroad, I’m used to answering to gra-ham where the a is pronounced flat as in cat and ham just as ham. It’s to do with the vowels being different.  Do your vowels in French and you’ll see what I mean.
However, like [...]

I think I’ve decided to change my name to something unmistakable like Jack Ferretthumper or Flugelard Frightthing or Marvin A Pickles or Dotty Hinkle… mebbie not Dotty Hinkle; for it is a lonely thing to have the name turnbell, no… trumble, no… turnball, no… tumble, no… campbell <— I mean, really.

I’ve got I even pronounce it in an exaggerated RADA style TURRRNNN_BOOOOL.  Doesn’t seem to make much difference.  And don’t get me started on the postcode 8AT.  “Izzat ay or aiy? “

“Do you mean ae or EE” I hyperventilate.  “Oh I give up … alpha tango.”

And don’t even mention the bleedin’ street name which most poor call centre English bods seem to think requires gargling in turpentine.

I’ve got it!!  By Gorge, no… George, I’ve got it!  Me name will be Arfur… Arfur Smiff and it will come to me spelled Arthur Smith.  Such is how the world works now!

Today, some time spent on getting our heads round this in a serious way. It's all very well reading all the documentation. So we invited some teachers in, had some lunch and really listened about what they are doing. Great and good ideas about Scran.

Buzz words are: flexibility, topics, some exemplars, some guidance on how to assemble Scran stuff into a planned package of content and one or two tweaks to what we do, but keep it loose, flexible and easy.  So Pathfinder hierarchy for CfE, show how to stitch that together in an album: easy peasy; and multimedia support in making stuff – add audio to albums/slides and output as podcast.

Atended E Learning Alliance talk from Euan Semple on the use of social networks. Agreed with most of what he was saying. Parcticality in certain environments may be another thing. Buzzwords: relationships, reciprocal learning, non-hierarchical, limit structure, openness icludes inanity, corporate firewalls need to relax and bring learning to me not me to learning
