I've not been posting to scribble for a long time now, although I still read "all blogs' fairly frequently. I though I might blog here again to try and get the word out of a wee project for this years Scottish Learning festival: SLFtalk

SLFtalk is a project to gather the voices of educators attending the Scottish Learning Festival 2009.

The idea is that anyone can join in and post audio snippets to the site.  This can be done in several ways:

  • Use your mobile to phone Gabcast.  The number and password will be available via calling cards and DM tweets
  • record a voice memo on an iPhone, or an mp3 file on a mobile, and email it to post@SLFtalk.posterous.com
  • record voice on an digital voice recorder (we will have some to borrow), drop it off at stall E48, or email the voice file to post@SLFtalk.posterous.com from one of the many computers at SLF.
All the 'voices' will be published on SLFtalk automatically.
More details on  Introduction to SLFtalk

NB: edited to fix post@SLFtalk.posterous.com as the correct emaul addres to send audio to,

This video was created as a conversation starter, and works especially well when brainstorming with people about the near future and the skills needed in order to harness, evaluate, and create information effectively.

I am still playing with the Flickr and google maps APIs.

My map toy now does dates, for instance this afternoons walk'.It should not be too hard to add sorting by tags too.

I am having another wee dig around scran again this morning. Found the firefox search plugin and noticed the maps stuff. As I've spent a wee bit of time this summer playing with the google maps api and flickr I was excited about this. The photo here was from a map search on Cardross where I grew up. Although I had played in the woods and field around where this photo was taken I'd never heard about the glider.
As usual I've fond a ton of interesting photos on Scran, I just hope I remember to look at the right time next session. I am blogging this with the blog this facility in Scran it would be lovely if Scran start supporting either the metaweblog API or just gave a copy paste fragment like flickr does: ZZ0ED210C5
Noticed a wee glitch with the blog this setup, if you preview back and forward a few times single and double quotes get escaped. Don't know what happens if you then publish, but i think I've got rid of them all.

I am just back from a week in the Netherlands with our two primary seven classes. We used a blog to keep in touch with the parents back home. Netherlands 2007
The blog had a very favourable reacton from parents on and offline 180 comments in a week.
The pupils took photos of various activities and typed short messages to their parents while traveling on our bus. I posted the enties whenever I could grab an internet connection.

I've just joined SCRAN (Finally found my gtc number) to get acess at home.
I am interested in seeing how the blogging tool works and to check out the use of Scran images in our school blogs.
At first glance it looks like elgg (and I can see a wee elgg graphic at the bottom).
All I've done so far is to try and pull in some of my feeds to this blog, join a couple of communities and type this to test the blog tool. I don't seem to be able to use the link button in safari so might switch to firefox.
